Carotid Endarterectomy

A carotid endarterectomy is the surgical removal of plaque in the carotid artery, which supplies blood to the brain and face. There is a carotid artery on each side of your neck. Blood flow through the carotid arteries can slow or stop when plaque builds up on the artery walls. When not enough blood reaches your brain, a stroke can occur.
